Best anchor tenant ever? 50 Cent to use a .club

Kevin Murphy, May 13, 2014, 11:14:03 (UTC), Domain Registries

The American rapper Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson has become the first big-name celebrity to get in on the new gTLD game, announcing today that he’s launching a fan site on a .club domain.
He’ll launch 50inda.club at a .CLUB Domains launch event in New York on May 22, the registry has just announced.
‘In Da Club’ was the name of his breakthrough single in 2003.
A quote in a press release, attributed to Jackson, said:

As I prepare to launch `Animal Ambition’ on June 3 and my new drama `Power’ on Starz, the timing was right to give my fans a central web location to stay on top of all my latest news and social updates. I like to stay on the cutting edge, and 50inda.club represents the new wave of Internet names that actually mean something to me and my fans.

Fiddy has 7.41 million Twitter followers. That’s the kind of social media exposure not many other — probably no other — new gTLD operators have managed to achieve to date.
This, in my view, is a huge coup and is exactly the kind of thing new gTLDs need to be doing to get the word out about new gTLDs.

Nice move … but he should also grab 50indaclub.com

His twitter followers will not care about this, these guys change their minds so often it is not even funny. He is not as relevant in the rap game as he was many years ago. A leader of technology would have been a better client, that domain name sounds absorb, missed the mark again. They will in no way meet their target demographic with this promo.

You think there aren’t any club owners among 50 Cent’s followers?

Sadly power of number was irrelevant since he didn’t mention anywhere on his twitter or facebook or on his site about .club but got ownership in the registry tells me this told is bound to be failed because of whacky promotion. When you hire too big celebrity you expect them they will be generous and will mention in their twitter don’t expect that from 50 , he wants profit and nothing is generous when it comes to Fiddy lol, he is hard worker and great entrepreneur but not very nice person in general.
This was epic fail , however I hope these guys get rid of 50 now and do some sane promoting

You’re talking about the man who used Twitter to rake in huge profits on a penny stock:

Twitter fans may be flaky, but there’s power in numbers.

@dan – (Could be trolling) – but I’ll take the bait…I think its a potentially great move. Regardless of what you personally feel about his music 50cent is a credible, authentic artist with a devoted following. How many aspiring rappers will emulate this move and get the string they want? Lots, I imagine. And when they do – brands will take notice. Converse, Nike etc- If .Club gets an urban “cool” aura they’ll all dive in with music-related content and then it’ll blow up. The only danger I see is if its TOO successful (i.e too cool) and other types of “clubs” see this string as primarily for musicians or rappers or nightlife. Will your local knitting club was the same TLD as fiddy?

“You think there aren’t any club owners among 50 Cent’s followers?”
Probably and they probably already have a site up on a .com
    Sony already has 50cent.com
He already has a central location for fans at thisis50.com
And he hasn’t had a hit in awhile, low point of popularity.

  5. Joe says:

    what about 50.club , 50cent.club, 50c.club, inda.club ?
    … and 50indaclub.com sits available …

  6. Ron Wells says:

Well, it’s good to see that this celebrity decided to stick with a domain name for his fan hub … LeBron James is using an app to stay “connected”:
