Three more dot-brands dumped

Kevin Murphy, June 12, 2014, 06:33:06 (UTC), Domain Registries

Two companies have yanked three bids for dot-brand new gTLDs this week.
The German financial advisor Allfinanz Deutsche Vermögensberatung withdrew its applications for .allfinanzberatung and .allfinanzberater, which mean Allfinanz “advice” and “advisers”.
As well as being a bit of a mouthful, they both appear to be unnecessary given that the company also applied for .allfinanz by itself. That application has passed evaluation and is still active.
Meanwhile, in Finland, one of the world’s biggest elevator/escalator manufacturers, KONE, has withdrawn its equally unfathomable application for .kone.
Roughly 55 dot-brand applications have been withdrawn to date. Hundreds remain.

    The .kone application went through a lot of ups and downs.

    I looked up ‘unfathomable’ to double check that I knew the correct meaning …
    un·fath·om·a·ble – Difficult or impossible to understand; incomprehensible.
    From your article:
    ~~~ “KONE has withdrawn its equally unfathomable application for .kone” ~~~
    What made the .kone application so difficult or impossible to understand??
    • Kevin Murphy says:
      They make elevators. How much bleeding edge mass marketing do you think they need to do?
      • Steve says:
        Kevin –
        KONE’s need (or lack thereof) for bleeding edge marketing does not in any way make for an “unfathomable application”.
        Perhaps if the article said KONE had “…withdrawn its misguided application for .kone” .. or “…withdrawn its unnecessary application for .kone” then you might have a point.
        However, especially in the context of Allfinanz Deutsche withdrawing its applications for .allfinanzberatung and .allfinanzberater (which, IMO are two of the most burdensome, unwieldy and thoughtless extensions out of ALL the gTLDs applied for), .kone hardly seems “equally unfathomable”. In fact, especially as compared to the other two gTLD examples, .kone seems quite fathomable.
        Perhaps there is another element to the .kone application that led to such an “unfathomable” comparison!? 🙂
